LOCATION:

The Little America’s Ranch is located South East of Alamogordo, New Mexico and North West of El Paso, Texas. Approximately 23,520 +/- Acres of Deeded Land, 46,966 +/- Acres of State Lease Land, 41,326 +/- Acres of Federal BLM Land, combined being a total of approximately 111,812 +/- Acres, or approximately 175 Sections.

CARRYING CAPACITY:

The carrying capacity is rated by the Bureau of Land Management "BLM" to be 1,404 Animal Units. The allotment is in good standing with the BLM and is in the maintain "M" category. The Ranch rated as 37% BLM which equals 6,234 Animal Unit "AU" Months or 519.5 Animal Units. The allotment is a "Section 3" permit which means the BLM regulates (controls) the entire Ranch concerning carrying capacity. This has been in effect for many decades and is a realistic number for this ranch.

Currently the Little America's Ranch is being used as a year around cow-calf operation. The semi-arid climate gives the opportunity to calve in the spring and fall. The ranch's infrastructure would make it feasible to run a yearling operation as well. The current owners have been very diligent in their grazing practices. Not over stocking and providing an abundance of water troughs throughout the pastures utilizes forage preservation.

PHYSICAL FEATURES:

The Little America’s Ranch is located on the Otero Mesa which is a unique formation in the desert region of south-central New Mexico. The mesa lies between the lower desert and the Guadalupe Mountains. Elevation is between 4,200 feet and 5,300 feet with the majority of the ranch being about 4,200 to 4,500 feet.

FORAGE AND TOPOGRAPHY:

The Little America’s Ranch lies on the Otero Mesa. Grass lands of the Crow Flats and rolling hills known as the Shilohs on the South end of the ranch. The Cornudas Mountains give picturesque southern views and the Sacramento Mountains being the North East boundary. The elevation varies from 5300 to 4200 feet. Lying in this basin long draws and flood plains are common throughout the entire property. Precipitation varies from 8 to 12 inches. With a growing season of up to seven months, this unique ecosystem can provide a variety of seasonal grasses and weeds. Forages consist of a wide variety of grasses which includes black grama, blue grama, sideoats grama, sand dropseed, bush muhly, three-awn, tobosa, sacaton, and exc. Seasonal weeds include filaree, cheatgrass, and goatgrass, among others.

IMPROVEMENTS:

The ranch has 10 working wells varying in depth from approximately 450 to 1,080 feet. 5 wells have electricity, 3 are solar, and 2 have generators. The current owners have installed over 600,000 feet (115 +/- miles) of 1 1/4" black poly pipe, with 21-11,000 gallon and 16- 5000 gallon black polyethylene water storage tanks. In addition to the newly added improvements, the ranch had at least 10 existing water storage tanks of various sizes placed across the property. Water being distributed from 60 + drinkers gives the ranch a tremendous water infrastructure. The ranch is divided into 14 pastures and 5 traps with multiple working areas. Many of the working areas are pipe/guard rail construction with load out chutes and county road access. The Stockard Pasture has a set of certified 20,000 lb livestock scales. The headquarters has two newer Oakwood modular 3 bed/2 bath homes, a 2 bath bunk house, separate kitchen building with large dining area, insulated shop, sheds, and tack room. All improvements are in good clean working condition.

WILDLIFE:

Wildlife found on the ranch includes Antelope, Mule Deer, Oryx, Aoudad, Coyotes, Bobcats, Quail, and many other desert animals. The current owners hunt very little, however there is opportunity for the next owner to proceed in some outfitting of hunts if desired. The ranch is located in Game Unit 29.
